AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORA BENVENUTI, the head designer and stylist for Emiliana Parati, leader Made in Italy in the wallpaper sector with licences for several world-famous brands, like Roberto Cavalli, Blumarine Home Collection, Gianfranco Ferrè, and Valentin Yudashkin.
To become a designer of a leading company in the world of wallpaper is a dream of many budding creatives that start off in the Home Decor sphere. We know one of these people who’s managed to transform her dream into reality and fill her career with creative passion: Debora Benvenuti.
She graduated with a degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, and her home is so close to the company Emiliana Parati, leader Made in Italy in the wall covering sector, that she can’t help but be influenced by it. Straight after graduating, the company gets in touch and she starts her career with them, at first as a graphic artist, creating renderings and covers for the company catalogue. Her creative verve didn’t go unnoticed, so Emiliana Parati sent her out into the world to get to know the company’s clientele, and Debora through herself into creating designs for the wallpaper collection itself.
It’s now 13 years that she’s designing for Emiliana Parati. It’s incredible to think that she came into the company without knowing anything about this world, with all the curiosity and dreams of a modern-day Alice in Wonderland.
For Debora it was love at first sight for this bewitching new world, the perfect place to fully express her innate artistic talent and create for three-dimensional spaces. She possesses an inner eye, capable of visualizing new designs as the decoration on the walls of rooms, like panels or wallcoverings, she can perceive and design patterns already within a space, real and concrete.
The work possesses her very soul, and the traveling, especially in Russia, the most important market for Emiliana Parati, inevitably broadens her horizons, both literally, and creatively. The direct contact with the clients, and the opportunity to see and perceive their tastes and needs inspires her creative drive to meet their requirements and requests for the collections to come.
She’s forever dreaming up patterns and designs for wallcoverings that continuously drift out of her imagination like clouds across the sky, projected onto the bare walls like a modern-day art installation, transforming them into canvasses for artistry.
Let’s dive into this never-ending flow of imagery, and listen to the lady herself.
